Hoagy Carmichael in Cardiff

In August, 1948, legendary American singer-songwriter Hoagy Carmichael (ask your grandad) was on tour in the UK and did a show in Cardiff at the Capitol Theatre – his only appearance in Wales (see ad). Carmichael is probably best known for having written such classic songs as Georgia On My Mind and Stardust. Carmichael was also an actor, appearing in about 14 films, the most famous of which was an adaptation of Hemingway’s To Have and Have Not (1943) with Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. He died in 1981.
